Transcript Graduate Schoo David L.Jameson, Ph.D., Associate Dean. Graduate School at the University of Houston provides the student with a challenge to attain an advanced degree in his area of specialization. The University of Houston began offering the master's degree level in 1939 and now has master's degree plans in approximately 40 fields. A program leading to the Doctorate in Education established in I 945 and Doctor of Philosophy programs were added later in other areas, such as psychology, chemistry, chemical engineering, mathematics, English, history, engineering- undifferentiated, business-undifferentiated, and political science. The Graduate School does not offer advanced degree programs as Doctor of Optometry, College of Optometry; Doctor of Jurisprudence, Bates College of Law; and Master of Social Work, Graduate School of Social Work.
