Transcript Houstonian sponsors campus competitions Houstonian activities were not limited to cropping pictures or writing headlines. Between the staff's three major deadlines, members sponsored Vanity Fair, Top Ten, and the Top Athletes competition. For the first time since Vanity Fair's inception, the pageant stressed scholastic average and campus involvement, rather than mere beauty. Preliminary and final judges were media personalities. Top Ten students were selected for their outstanding leadership, scholarship, and service to the University. Judges were faculty and staff executives. Top Athletes were chosen on the basis of past records, individual and team contributions. Candidates were judged by the Houstonian sports department.
