Transcript coog pride Before the close of the fall semester, University of Houston faculty and students worked to create the events surrounding Homecoming 2006. The week of October 30 to November^ Homecoming week culminated with a C-USA win over Tulsa University. Homecoming planning began with choosing a theme that would appropriate to a large, diverse university. Planning began for Homecoming in April 2006, with the first Planning Meeting in May 2006. "We had a committee that included Alumni, the Band Director, Athletics, and HAO/' Georgia Edwards, Homecoming events chairperson said. wWe came up with five themes: Pride of a Cougar, Power of a Cougar, Heart of a Cougar, Spirit of a Cougar, and Style of a Cougar. The main theme was Pride of a Cougar." Homecoming events kicked off on Sunday October 29 with Painting the UC and on Monday, October 30 the homecoming court was announced. Individuals named to homecoming court included: Eric Brown, Lydia Clay, Rubik Yeriazarian, Wendi Murray, Kurt Schoeffler, Ashley Evans, Rey Rodriguez, Jennifer Blome, Derrick English, and Kelly-Ryan Boren. The elected Homecoming King and Queen were Derrick English and Ashley Evans. "I think the student body was very responsive to the Homecoming Events," Edwards said. "All of the Homecoming events had story by rita sirrieh student life more attendance than we expected. I think the whole week was successful." Individual colleges also hosted events for both alumni and current students to boost Cougar spirit and involvement in homecoming events. The C.T. Bauer College of Business hosted competitions throughout the week with prizes ranging from scholarships to trophies. The College of Education and the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management hosted lectures and meetings for alumni to attend. Other colleges also hosted Tailgating for students and alumni before the big game on Saturday. The Homecoming football game against Tulsa University attracted vast amounts of people, alumni, current students, and their families, and proved to be an exciting time for Cougar fans. "The most exciting part was when everyone rushed the field [at the end ofthegame],"freshmanChidiogoAnyigbosaid.wl really liked the Good News Gospel Choir performance during halftime." However, other students faced difficulty in attending some of the planned Homecoming events because the events conflicted with class times. "[An] improvement for Homecoming would be to get the whole campus involved, like all the different colleges," Edwards said. "It would be great if students would be exempt from class during important homecoming events such as the Pep Rally" uthe main theme was Pride of a Cougar"
