Transcript SOCIAL CALENDAR By HARRY JOHNSTON September 23— Inmates return after three-month furlough. Dupre eats again. October I— Sophs welcome frosh. Talley thinks he's in Belton. (Girls irritate lips). October 7— Richard Faussett elected president of senior class by vote of 3-2. (His vote broke tie). October 12— Wilbur Smith re-elected president of Red Masquetccrs. (Only one preesnt at meeting, besides Mitchell). October 2 1 — Music Study Club picnic. Jack Palmer still in the woods. October 28— "Hay Fever" opened to a capacity audience of 17. Ann Murray, new Carter protegee replacing Cook, ran amuck. October 30— Houstonian Penny Carnival. Really! November 6— General College excursion to Dallas Centennial. Jeff cry's profit: $18.41. Doughnuts still left. November 1 3— Frosh hold annual belly-rub. Rig sviccess. "Pop" Holt sports new suit next week. November 2 1 — "Spats" Hamilton names self Student Association head. Cougar Collegians turn tables on boys, hold vice-versa. December 4— Student Association officers leave for Fort Worth. Who won ? Fifty-nine on honor (?) roll. December 9— "Cock Robin" opens in school stable. Carl Lieb starred in role of assistant to assistant stage manager. The Harvest^ collection of farces written by Ruth Pennybacker's pale poodles, goes on sale. NOT autographed by Mrs. Percy V. December I I — Soph struggle. 145 attend. 140 sit out in the cars. December 23— University crooners warble. Riot squad pants. Day schoolers present broadcast during silent hour of KPRC. January I— Five University students fail to make it between telephone pole and car. January 8— School accepts couple of lots out at McGregor. Johnston damns drunkards. Drunkards damn Johnston. January 1 5— Houstonians, after thirteen attempts, give up Goulash. Sub square dance. Ira Clarkson Bob Burns. Students make youth talks. Audience still asleep. January 29— Student body holds important meeting. Bauer wins dice and 2ic. For eighth time Houstonian deadline announced. February 5— Gerald Schlief organizes Univeristy of Houston swingsters. Text hooks laic. Sears-Roebuck in a rush. February 19—• Bender reports 1140 students enrolled, including S janitors, 17 porters, and a professor (?). Day school holds hobo dance. No change in dress. February 26— Houstonian Revue Pierce grabi rocking chair. Bland uncovers activities of President Much and is replaced hy Dimney as \ ice president of sophs. March 5— Engineer's hold dance. Gardner rates map on front 1 of Cougar. Circulation drops. March lo-i I — Four tragedies presented in auditorium. White chicken star. Struesand pokes hole in floor of dressing-room. Johnston still holding Kost. March 1 2— Bonnie Luscher goes to Huntsville. University of Houston duchess, ya dopes! Oberholtzer makes mud pies on new grounds. March 19— Eaves elected queen. "Jerry Bentley Rates Staff Position On Yearbook." —Headline. The one and only candidate. Julian and Bentley voted for Bentley. March iy— University's trained seals go to El Paso. Mitchell leaves frau at home. March 28 - April 3— Texas Intercollegiate One-Act Play Contest. Players bribe judges, take fourth place. Mavis Anderson goes out with judges, takes individual honors. Edythe Reddick goes out with El Paso, takes individual honors. April 9— Cougar omnibus ballot results announced. Rumors concerning ugliest boy division. April 16— Johnston, ugliest boy in the University, exposed. Freshmen hold scrap dance, parasites (Stags) predominate. April 23— I loustonians come through with \ ice-\ visa. No postponements. Boys suffer. April 2 8- Day school presents farce, "Shooting Stars," in auditorium. April 29— Nelda Eaves (The future Mrs. Morris) and Richard Faussett, king and queen it, at City Auditorium. Dancers take it all, heat, crowd, boredom, etc. May 13- Day school sophs hold banquet at Ye Olde College Inn. Liquor not given by the house. Crowd stays sober. (Prove it). May 14— Day schoolites have annual May Day at bay. Turns into gigantic poker game. Miller takes home the bacon. Cougar Collegians hold dance. Big crowd of 19, including seven chaperoncs and Mrs. Bessie M. Ehaugh. May 19— "Apron Strings given hy N. C. D. S.—Snapp and Taylor star. State award winner gets big head and flops. R<-st of cast ok. June 5— School is out, and so arc the students.
