Transcript Kentucky defenders watch Kenny Hebert being wrestled to the ground, too late, as the referee's outstretched arms signal "Touchdown". Cougar defensive back Dick Spratt snares a wayward Florida State pass for an interception. UH Trips Kentucky Ties Florida State to End Season After a week to settle back to earth and lick their wounds from the Ole Miss victory, the Cougars took on eighth-ranked Kentucky. All-America quarterback Rick Norton passed the Wildcats to a quick touchdown before Kenny Hebert brought Houston to life. Hebert dropped back to punt on fourth down, spied a hole in the Kentucky line and jaunted forth on a 61-yard gallop that set up a Houston score. The Coogs matched Kentucky score for score until Mike Spratt took a Bo Burris pass ten yards to paydirt early in the third quarter to put Houston ahead 24-21. Two more touchdowns made it 38-21 and pushed the game out of reach for Kentucky. Following a pair of victories over fine football teams the Cougars left the Dome for the season finale against Florida State. Despite a 91-yard kickoff return by Warren McVea and a spirited team effort in the fourth quarter a final win eluded the Cougars. Seminole fullback Jim Mankins and halfback Phil Spooner harassed the Houston defense repeatedly. Both teams missed field goal attempts in the closing minutes with the game ending in a 16-16 tie. 159
