Transcript ^srladkback . . . 1939 In 1939, America and the rest of the world stupidly believed the Munich Pact would bring "peace for our time" ... In that year the University of Houston moved into a new home on St. Bernard, where tbe new CuIIen and Science Buildings stared at each other across a mud hole that would soon be a reflection pool ... 110 acres were donated for the new site by the Ben Taub and Settegast heirs . . . 1939 saw the founding of the Graduate School . . . The Cougar Collegians held their annual Galveston beach party, and the Red Masquers gave Siage Door and Lloliday . . . Students then had a peculiar idea of tbe correct method to be followed in hazing a freshman as the above cut from the 1959 yearbook shows.
