Description Typewritten letter signed by Hector P. Garcia, surgeon, World War II veteran, civil rights advocate and founder of the American G.I. Forum. Written as Chair of the AGIF of Texas on its letterhead stationery, dated Corpus Christi, Texas, December 20, 1950, to Alonso S. Perales. Dr. Garcia expresses his organization’s interest “in the Anti-Discrimination Bill,” noting his willingness “to take the initiative,” but he wants to know that The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is on-board “since we don’t want [there] to be a split on the issue.”

Naturally we are interested in the Anti- Discrimination Bill and would be gla d to take the initiative. Although the going would be tough I believe we are in a better position to publicise it. I also believe that it will be necessary to get the LTJLACS O.L. since we don't want tc be split on the issue and then having- one another criticizing each others stand. I also agree that it would be easier to pass by eliminating the penalty change and merely having: their license revoked or something similiar. must definitely try to get it done again. Let me know what other suggestions you have and what you think should be our next step. Of course I would have to get the 0.1.. of our Advisory Body but there is no question as to the outcome.
