Transcript Sour Lake July 14th./81 Dear Son You must excuse my writing with a pencil as I am nervious [sic] today. I am going through an other course of medicine which makes me feel weak. These waters take out of ones system all malaria & bile after I get through this course will feel perfectly well. You would surprised to see how far I can walk every day without feeling any fatigue - I mean when I am not taking waters to act on my liver - My kidneys were power- fully acted upon the first few days after I came here. Now they are acting natural - and my poore [sic] weak stomach [sic] I believe will go home well ---------------------------------------------- nothing I eat disagrees with me altho we have the poorest cooking here you ever saw as to my rheumatism do no know yet whether it will be cured or not. The soarness [sic] in my shoulder & arm has hurt me less for two days past then usual, but there is still soreness & pain in my back between my shoulders & sometimes soreness & pain in my head - I cannot tell yet whether that will be cured Sallie wrote me the 8th say- ing she was coming but did not have a day set to start, and wants me if possible to stay until she comes. I would be glad to be here, as I could be of much service to her. And be -tween this & the end of the week will hear from her again -------------------------------------------- that is if she does not put in an appearance by that time; I have made all the enquiries for them and wrote her day before yesterday - I am in a room that would remind you of old Head Quarters, Log Cabins. But as rough as it is I am out of all the bustle of that old noisey Hotel have four windows be- -side a wide cool hall to set in, and pleasant ladies room- -ing near me. Judge Perry- mans three daughters, one is Mrs Doct. Cook the other two her sisters, and a cousin of theirs - Sister of the district attorney of Lib -berty Co. a Miss Perryman also all very charming lafies _ Tell Mrs Ashe I would like to see her here just one day in this dirty place ----------------------------------------- The Perrymans all live at liberty ----------------------------------------- 4th I wish you would kill all them old cats I felt afraid they would eat all my little chicks - I wrote to Sam Monday. How I pity Elliot how lonely he must have felt going into the house all alone Yours in love M Jones
