Transcript Willis Sunday Evening November 28th [1880] My Dear Son Yours of the 27th to hand. I did not feel like writing yesterday - indeed I had nothing of interest to communicate, as Sallie continued about the same up to [to]night - She had but the one chill and fever, but not until yesterday morning did that severe pain in her left side & back dis- appear entirely - Then sore throat with some cough and hoarseness made its appearance making her feel very badly all night. This morning she seems much better tho depressed in spirits from these unlooked for afflictions one after an other - after having such reason- able prospect of soon being up as she had three weeks ago - She has not set up any since Monday last - will be able to get up again tomorrow if no new trouble does not appear The doctors say her attack has been caused by a torpid liver, and is partly a bilious attack combined with cold. No matter from what ----------------------------------------------------------- cause her sickness has been painful & tedious not only to her but to me also, As I feel im- patient to get any as you may well imagine aside from having to see her suffer from day to day as has been the case for five days past I cannot set a day to leave from home until she is better able to help herself - But hope soon to be with you - How I will enjoy to settle down in quiet at home once more. With love to Sam & Yourself with much kind regards to Ara &c &c Your Mother Mary Jones [A second letter is included with Mary Jones’s November 28th letter] Aunt Dora’s Nov 27th /80 My dear Crommie I write you a letter today to tell you something of my visit to Grand Pa & Aunt Dora. I am having such a nice time. Have so much nice butter milk & sweet mild. I wish every day you had some. The butter milk is frozen through. I think of you all the time. You must not frolic with the girls. You may take Aunt Maissey, but no one else to the theatre. I met Mr Archer from Houston on the train & he tried to get me to be his sweetheart. I told him I couldn’t give Crommie up for no any other gentleman. I am going to start to Ark tomorrow week & then back to Tex when you will I will see you. Mama is not well. She has such a bad cold. Tell Aunt Maissey this letter will have to do for her too. Mama wrote to her & must only write to Crommie. Tell El. Bubbee says he is coming back soon & he must come up to his house. You must write as soon as you get this. Direct your letter to Marianna, care Uncle M[___]. My love to Papa. I want to see him mighty bad. Love to Crommie and a kiss from his little Sweetheart These are Sals exact words. She has a I wrote it, just as she said it.
