Transcript Willis Thursday January 23rd 1879 My Dear Son I intended to acknowledge the receipt of your very welcome letter, and also the medicine for Elliot the I received them, but had to go down town which fatigued me so much that I have felt little like writing. The cough mix -ture has relieved him very much, it enables him to cough much easier and I think is healing the ulcers in his throat, at any rate he is much better of it. I got the little Table home yesterday which adds greatly to my little stock of comforts. I read with interest the recep -tion, and funeral of the late Mr. Schl -eicher at San Antonio. Was glad you had the pleasure of an introduction to the distinguished committee who came to Texas in honor of our distinguished dead representative. All together it is quite an event, and one that will be long rem -embered. Tuesday evening Mr Wiggins -------------------------------------------------------- called in and read the Deeds you left with me and he took his deed to me home with him and both himself and wife will make their acknowledge -ments to it before Justice Roberts of his Precinct and when he comes in again will deliver it to me when I will give him the deed to our place. Gaston landed his prisoner safely in the Montgomery Jail all are well at Gas s Sallie came up to see me Tuesday _ And brought Elliots Box of Pictures I never saw him so delighted with anything . He can set some of the pictures by himself, and it is amusing to see how he labors to read the stories, great drops of perspiration are visible on his face so hard is the labor to him; He says to tell Uncle Crommy he is much obliged for the nice present With best wishes, and much love From Your Mother Mary Jones As soon as I can get the garden fence put up will begin planting ----------------------------------------------------------- [Additional letter enclosed] Friday morning Woman like I forget to ask your opinion about a little matter, which is this, Mr. Wiggins had & not I found taken a release proper, from Bell but merely had written across the deed of Trust which was on record a stat- ment that that he had paid in full & taken up his note &c &c. But at my sug- gestion he wrote our a relea -se & sent it over for him to sign, with a request to send the same to me by mail. As yet however it has not come to hand This morning Mr. Mercer the man who has rented the Wiggins place was here in company with Gaston to see if I was in full poss -esion, and if so to get the ----------------------------------- necessary instructions to go on to the place & begin work, which he intends doing on Monday next My hopes in regard to the cough medicine sent up I fear will prove a failure as last night Elliots cough was as severe as at anytime for a month past, he finally vom -ited about daylight and after -ward was relieved. But both Tonsils are more swollen if poss -ible than when you look -ed at it when here. But he is up and complains very little except when he attempts to swallow anything hard, or rather salt. I fear nothing short of having the Tonsils removed will do him any permane -nt good Affectionately M Jones
