Transcript [Written upside down across top of letter, recto] I will get paper this evening am writing on just what I have ---------------------------------------------- Willis Nov. 6th 1878 Dear Son Everything is still in chaos here, notwithstand- -ing the election passed off without any out break of any kind so far as heard from, now 2 Oclock the Boggies both went back upon Gaston - and the two together only gave Gas, nine majority where he had confidently expected a hundred so much for the promises of men. They think however that we will have three Democratic County Commissioners elected. No one slept Any in this house last night. Our party have allowed a few U S Marshal to Bulldoze them out of the election of the full democratic ticket and fifteen more of the Montgomery Citizens have been arrested, so we have just heard ---------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. McComb handed the letter you speak of to Gas, the night he came up. Last evening yours of the 2nd Inst with ten dol. bill inclosed reached me And last tho not least, I heard today with heartfelt gratitude to the Giver of all good things that Harris Co. had carried the Democratic ticket I felt glad for you, and the success of the good cause too. Would to heaven we could say as much for this rotten County. I have today sent Sam two Papers & written him a note. Mr Ashe has been of much service here; at dinner today she spoke of going down in the morning. Tell Mrs Ashe to not feel uneasy if he does not come, as he can be of so much service here in getting things quieted down Affectionately Your Mother
