Transcript [Written upside down along the top of letter, recto] Miss Mary Ashe wishes you to bring up her Album when you come. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Willis Dec 26th./75 My Dear Son Yours pr Mr. Jordan came duly to land Also the Box of fruit reached here Friday evening in ample time to help out old Santa Claus rather limited Stock of presents in the stock- ings. I enjoyed the fruit very much as I have not been well for two weeks past. Tomorrow night two weeks I was attacked with the [ ] - iling disease flux accompanied with very severe pain _ this lasted at intervals some four days and just [as] I had succeeded in relieving myself of it, I fell backward striking the end of the spinal bone on the floor, this accident occurred last Thursday evening week, for three days I could not turn in bed without much pain and altho it is, I feel sure, slowly improving I am at no time free from suffering there seems to be considerable soreness accompanied with a dead aching pain. I am able to walk about & set up but by night I am suffering too -------------------------------------------------------------- [Written upside down along the top of the page, verso] I will need some money after a little you can bring or send me some. Gaston & Sallie says for you will find them here until the last of this week, so come if you can ------------------------------------------------------------------- much to sleep for some time cannot lay on my back at all. Well I have arranged with Mrs Jordan to Board with her until our folks can get up more room. I may be here until spring I would not go to Mrs. Js until she agreed to take me as a boarder it will cost me less pr. month than the way I am now living. The room is carpeted has a stove in it beside I can during the day use as a setting room one with a fire place. at present Mary Ashe will be in the same room with me. I take with me my own bed &c I think I can be very comfortable there I could not keep this house as the owners want it the first of Jan. or so soon as we can get out of it. We asked the privelige of staying the first month in case the bad weather should prevent our moving out I suppose you are very busy electioneering, do you expect to Canvass the Co.? I will be so glad to see you at anytime. Sallie is keeping a big Turkey & to- morrow will make some mince Pies and have in readiness by the time you come; Gaston cannot go to his place on account of high water & the boggy conditions of the roads.
