Transcript Dec 20 - 1875 Monday Morning Dear Son Last evening Miss Mary handed me your welcome note. I had been looking for it. The papers you sent I read with much interest particular[l]y that part in which your dear name appeared so conspicuously I almost regretted that anything could occur to turn you from the even tenor of your present occupation. But of this no doubt you are better able to judge than I, and am satisfied and proud of my Son. Mr. Potter handed me some papers you sent up by him & told me that you had gained his case it makes me happy until yet to recall his happy delighted looks, he thinks you are a great Lawyer Well for my poor self I have been sick all this week not very however sick however & on Thursday evening last fell & hurt myself which gave me considerable suffering for some thirty- six hours, but am now recovering from it, so I am able to sit up & walk about some. We are in an unsettled state which is terribly unpleasant. Sis had a letter from Gaston he is still in Houston which will delay their move. I feel tempted to try to get this place until Spring as it will be only a continuation of the unrest & disquiet I am now in to go to Mrs Jordans for a few ---------------------------------------------------------------- weeks. I am not certain that I could get the place longer than for the present month Let me have you views in regard to the matter I dislike so much to be constantly troubling you But feel that some one must be troubled as well as myself and some how I turn to you. I think Gaston may be delayed in getting comfortable quar -ters for me our at his place or we may expect had weather at this season of the year. I could stay here & not go to any very great outlay as I could keep of Sallies things most all I would need except some provisions. So soon as I hear form you I will or will not as the case may be) see Mr Sandal & let you know We are all having colds but no one sick. I am so sorry the Country is to be unset -tled again by an other election. I read the new Constitution but am not sufficiently well posted in regard to the bad fathers of the old one to pa compare & pass judgment. Let any suggestions you make come as from yourself not as in answer to my remarks in this note Can you send me a few Apples. I will let you know if I need any money As ever your loving Mother Mary Jones
