Transcript Willis May 24th,/75 Dear Son Yours of the 21st just rece ived Saturday evening [ ] came all safe was glad to get them so soon. I will quote all Mr Gaillaird said in regard to selling the old place; “Please write what you can take for the whole of your place sold to one person - and all togeth -er - and on what terms you would sell all of it.” I showed this to Sam, and asked him if he was willing to have the portion I had given him in- cluded in the sale, to which he made rather and evasive ans -wer. Which I understood to mean no if it ment any- thing. ------------------------------------------- [written upside down across top of the two inner pages] I have read with interest all the doings at the Fair, how much I would have enjoyed seeing Mrs Long - poor Sam was disappointed too ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sam said to me last winter that he only wanted about fifty acres. I could give you a correct idea of the shape of Sams piece if I could see you. I have thought in case a sale could be made Sam would have to go down & mark off what he wants and then the balance could be surveyed. I would think 25.00 a good price for what would be left, don’t know whether you included all or made your estimate in -cluding what Sam wants I have no idea who wants the place, & feel at a loss what to say to Mr Gaillard unless it is to refer him to you hereafter in regard to the matter. I have not yet replied to his query ------------------------------------------- As Gaston is down there now, have thought most likely I would hear some thing more definite when he returned, which will be some time this week In case I get anything either favorable or otherwise I will let you know at once I think Mr West who wanted bargened to purchase my stock is playing some double game from the what Mr Gaillaird wrote me in a second letter which came here last week & at once I replied to it & requested Gaston to look into the matter and get everything with Mr West. Mr West it seems sent parties and took ---------------------------------------- off nine head of cattle & three weeks after this come back at Mr G’s earnest request I looked for the balance but no more could be found. I had written to Mr W and said to him that Mr G would count & deliver my cattle to him &c &c I think he has got himself into troub le by taking the cattle away in Mr. Gaillaird[‘s] absence Jack McCue said there were twenty head, his mother told me this when I was down there this spring. I am hoping Gaston will get the matter looked into Elliot is still improving all well. As ever your Mother Mary Jones
