Transcript Head Quarters July 9th,/73 Dear Son I send up these few lines to be mailed at the Burg by Samuel, his wife and baby have been here over two weeks sickness of the babe & little Girl have detained them here some longer than they intended The babe has been quite sick with fever & does not seem to improve fast although he has not had fever for several days past, this oppressive hot weather is not in his favor Nellie Ashe has had two attacks of fever & looks very badly, the little babe has also had fever both are better now. Poor little children how sad it is to see them sick. I am not feeling well my- self and in case the indications for fever become strong I intend to take medicine in time to ward off a severe attack I am owing Sam Sixteen dollars which I will be glad if you can send it to him by the first safe opportunity as I think he needs it The Peaches & Grapes are getting ripe cant you come down & spend a few days with us in about ten days or two weeks for now. I was not unm -indful of your birth day & am glad you received such a nice present surprises to the contrary notwithstanding how do you manage to live this hot weather ----------------------------------------------------- hope you may keep well & keep a sharp lookout for yellow fever and leave in good time I have had a letter of late date from my Brother he is improving in health & spirits too. Mr. Gaillard has had an attack of bilious fever. I fear we will have a sickly summer. I have nothing of interest to write, hope to hear from you often may Hevens blessing rest upon you and guide you in all things is the constant wish and prayer of your loving Mother Mary Jones.
