Transcript [Written on printed stationery of the Young Ladies Boarding and Day School, Corner McKionney and Crawford Sts., Houston, Harris Co., Texas, with the printing crossed out.] Sanjancinto Jan. 1873 Dear Son I reached the Burg late Saturday evening, and have not been able to go home owing to bad weather will go down today "Friday" on Sams Boat I saw Mr Syd -nor had a talk with him about the Clear Creek interest he thinks possibly as I am the only one in the way now of Trueheart & Andrews that I can get more for my interest in proportion than he did And be that as it may - what I am wri -ting you for is to call your attention particularly ------------------------------------- to this fact, that some [holes] have been made for which the parties have not paid owing to the fact that they could not get perfect titles, but they will pay so soon as Trueheart and Andrews can get their title perfected Mr Sydnor did not sell his interest in any of these sales & advises me to not sell mine he only sold his interest in what land he now owned at the time of sale but retained all his interest in what is due the con- cern One of the [ ]a -hans had purchased to the amount of $6,ooo -------------------------------- dollars worth for which his is still owing Hume & Mr. More have undertaken to collect this debt for 25 pr.cent and Trueheart told me he thought they would collect it Capt Kipp also purchased some land & has not paid yet now I wish you to re tain all the interest in all debts owing for sales. And from what Sydnor tells me I am clearly of the opinion the best thing for us to do is to sell out to Andrews for whatever you can get Mr S says Andrews will give us the same in proportion ------------------------------- for our interest he got and said as above stated that we may possibly get more as we are the only claimant in their way. Look to this ma tter at once & let me hear from you I found all hands here nearly laid up with colds all are now better I am very well. Give my kindest regards to the Major much love to Mrs Bryan & family and Mrs Scranton, and for your dear self my affectionate love and best wishes for your success As ever your devoted Mother Mary Jones
