Description This black and white photograph from approximately 1905 published by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd depicts a view of commercial ships on the Hoogly from the Howrah Bridge. The Hoogly River was known to be the most difficult and dangerous river for navigators due to its constantly shifting shoals. The rising tide sometimes reached seven feet tall.
