Transcript * ... s. s. " O" S"'- O'" * Long Beach, California Hot Parkerhouse rolls THANKSGIVING DI NER 20 November 1937 PLA S are now being made for the annual children's Christmas Party to be given aboard ship on Christmas Day. A committee is planning the party but help from all hands will be needed to make it a success. We feel sure that the fun which all, young and old, will have at the party, plus the satisfaction of seeing so many happy little children in our midst will be more than an ample reward for the effort required. The general plan is as follows: All wives and children are invited. It is hoped that you will attend and help make this a happy Christmas Day for all. The children will be divided into groups and a group will be assigned to each division for special attention and guidance during the entire time they are on the ship. . As soon as they come aboard, children will be met by division representatives and escorted to division compartments. Each division will have a small Christmas tree with one or two toys for each child. The expenses of the Division Party will be defrayed by the contributions from the men of the division. Next a turkey dinner with all the trimmings will be served. After dinner all hands and Our little guests will assemble on the quarterdeck, where we will have a large tree with a suitable gift for each child. We may be able to stage a little show also. All expenses of the party on the quarterdeck, including the gifts, will be paid by the Ship's Service Welfare Fund. ( Colltlnued on Pace 2.) HOUSTON'S CHRISTMAS PARTY Coffee Bread dressing Cranberry sauce Early June peas Combination salad Fruit cake Butter Cigars Hearts of celery Sweet pickles Cream of asparagus soup Soda crackers Bread Roast young turkey Giblet gravy Candied yams Buttered asparagus Mincemeat pie By MERELY glancing over the above dinner which will be served aboard this vessel on Thanksgiving, one more than casually gets the idea that the Supply Department is doing itself proud once again in arranging sumptuous repasts. Now, let us take notice of that first left hand item, roast young turkey. Without it, the dinner would be ju t another meal but with it the dinner rises to the highest realms of gastl'onomic excellence, symbolic of true Thanksgiving spirit. So important has this former American game bird become in the celebration of Thanksgiving Day, that we think it highly proper at this time to present herein a brief description of the bird. The turkey is an American game bird of the pheasant family and genus meleagris, ( Continued on Pall'e 3.) THA KSGIVI G DAY Thursday, 25 November 1937
