Transcript Volume II. San Diego, California., Sept. 30, 1935. Number XXXVIII Second Presidential Cruise During the coming week the HOUSTON will proceed to sea on her second cruise with our Commander in Chief, President F. D. Roosevelt on board. Two notable personages in our Government sailing in the C in C's party are: Secretary of the Interior, Harold B. Ickes and Works Progress Administrator, Harry Hopkins. As we go to press our tcnative schedule is not definitely known, but we, the crew of the United States Ship HOUSTON feel proud to have our distinguished shipmates on board. We all look forward with happy anticipation to the coming cruise, as memories of the pleasant cruise last year are still fresh in our minds. It was with pardonable pride we received news of the forthcoming cruise, forthwith proceedings with preparations, intent on making this a far greater and more successful cruise than the last whether it be shorter or longer in duration. This cruise is a fine opportunity for us, the entire crew, to demonstrate clearly to you, our cooperative ability in carrying out each evolution as a smoothly functioning and thoroughly schooled unit of our great Naval Forces. President Roosevelt, we members of the HOUSTON crew welcome you and your party aboard, both as Commander in Chief of our Navy and as a former, distinguished shipmate. We hope this cruise is as enjoyable and pleasant to you and your party as it will be to us in having such distinguished shipmates. •T#M J J i M><OM-0«H»'0'«»<H »I<«»U«»II4B»I ►<l •*« i i i i i i i i i i »;♦■ y (> ■«■» l) «»0«K (H o srjh nt/jfj-fiw*^ //'
