Transcript HOUSTON VOICE www.houstonvoice.com AUGUST 27, 2004 19 nilelife johnny hooks A new Miss Texas U.S. of A reigns, but TABC trouble in Conroe leaves a group of 'girls' without a stage A cup of hot Kofi THIS WEEK HOVO ON THE GO-GO recommends comfortable shoes when venturing out as there is a lot go-going on in Space City First, lets talk Queens Big hugs and kisses to the new Miss Gay Texas U.S. of A., Miss KOFI! A familiar face to everyone, the Kofi was brewing hot last Sunday as she accepted her crown. The next U.S. of A. pageant will be held at Club Inergy in September, and a handbook with entry requirements is available on-line at the official Web site www.usofa.org/Texas. One of the reasons we love Kofi here at HotGG is she's not only a beautiful Diva with a 1000-watt smile, she also has a heart as big as her shoes! Kofi is hosting a "turn-a-bout" fund-raiser for long-longtime Charles Armstrong employee, Randall Jobe on Monday, Aug. 30 on the Sante Fe side of JR's. Jobe is a fixture in the local theater scene and an icon of sorts at JR's. Quick with a quip and with a strong drink, not to mention a truly unique and sassy fashion sense, Jobe is in a local hospital recovering from an undiagnosed case of diabetes. Let Randall know how much you care and drop by with a check or cash. Roll those pennies girls! Get well soon, you face- slapping sister! TABC trouble in Conroe HotGG also reported last week that the ravishing Ms. Jill Jordan is accepting contestants for the upcoming Ms. Galaxy Pageant. We also mentioned "The Jill Jordan Variety" show knocking 'em dead at Ranch Hill Saloon. Sadly, the variety show has been pulled for the next month due to "TABC [Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission] problems." Jordan told HotGG "I'm devastated, honey We were already to go, and then I got the call. I know attendance was off a little last week due to a Woodlands concert, the US. of A. pageant and the funeral of a long-time Ranch Hill bartender. "But people have been so supportive of us, I hate that it's gone...for now only, I hope." Jordan also mentioned she would be happy to take the variety show on the road for the next month. Interested? Contact her directly at 713-524-8937. Jordan also poured a cup of tea for HotGG. "I just got off the phone with Jeff Stryker, and he's minutes away from signing to do the "Jeff Stryker Reality Show" on MTV's new 24-hour gay channel, Logo. He also sent me his new limited edition 12-inch HoVo go- on the Houston favorite, Kofi, is the new Miss Gay Texas US of A. (Photo courtesy of Club Inergy) action figure. Oooh, the skin feels so real!" HotGG will take your word for it, Jill, lb see for yourself, go to www.jeff-stryker.com. THE BATTLE FOR THE OFFICIAL PAPI Cliulo continues this week. It seems DJ Alex T clearly has the upper hand. He faxed the HotGG office a copy of a document from the Harris County Clerk's Office. Signed, dated and notarized, "Papi Chulo M -ffe Houston" now the property of Torres from Jp V Aug. 16, 2004 until 2014! So remember to check out the now official Papi Chulo every Thursday night at 1415 California. DJ Alex T can also be found every Sunday at Bartini in the men's lounge, with fellow DJ Rocky B in the ladies lounge for "The Powder Room." 713-526-BAR1. LOCAL "JAZZ VISUALIST" AND SCAT master (not that kind!) Kellye Gray returns to Houston for two shows a night at Cezanne, Friday and Saturday The 9 p.m. shows are non-smoking.
