How nice, what fun! But please, try to maintain a little modesty, and for heavens' sake, don't pick up al I the checks. This too sh al I pass, and the important thing is that it should leave you with a rosy glow, not a stack of bills. Taurus In the great leap forward you're attempting, just remember that landing can be hard. Look at endings as well as beginnings. New schemes bring new responsibilities, and the bright shine of ambition may blind you to them. Preparation insures happiness. Gemini Don' t complain. Don't grumble about how hard you work. You're due for some recognition, and the best way to achieve it is to smile and let everyone else think you breeze along with no sweat. Even if it's not true, let others think you're on top of it oll. l Cancer Begin by accepting limits at work while you hide your ~lans for some startling changes. Then, do the same thing at home. Conservative elements will be won over by your caution, enabling you to ease into improvements you know are due in both places. Leo Think of yourself as a whole person. Limitations in your personal life inspire some doubt but, if you consider your success outside your home, you' ll find the pride you need. What makes you unhappy is not your doing; wait for it to resolve itself. Virgo You should be right in your element. You're needed, you have specific functions to perform, and your duties are those that you can do better than anyone else. Don't question why you were tapped for the iob; the answer is unimportant. Libra As much as you like to avoid controversy, this may still be the best time to present suggestions and plans for change. Reception may be cool at first, but your listeners are physically prepared. Be yourself; your ease is convincing. Scorpio Keep the faith. You know what's important, and you know that your project is on the way to genuine realization. Support for you wavers, and your own strength is necessary for continuation. This is no time A strange red invitation By AllAJIDA B. Your energy may ebb this time of year, and it's nice to know that help is available from loved ones. Let life happen. Capricorn You don't have to be told to listen to hunches. Something pops up in your head that lights lights and rings bells. The combination of new inspiration with a lot of well-appreciated support may skew you into a new path and new ambition. Aquarius What you hope for doesn't come, I'm afraid, but your setback is only temporary. Stay cocky and sure, and don't let disappointment show-at any cost. Attitude is important, and your flexibility will earn you new consideration. Pisces As you continue to battle minor brush fires of trouble, your success in meeting them and quenching them gives you added confidence. Finances are the latest flare-up, but careful handling overcomes that. J Check for mistakes on your bills and paycheck. You come out ahead. We are not totally alien to such parties, you know. We're "positive" there is a i;: growing right-wing conspiracy to shove us back into <{ ii! the closet and slam the door. And the conspirators are ~ festering in the proliferation of so-called think tanks ~ across the country. These conspirators emerge ~ periodically to pronounce the "truth;' such as ex~ Reagan aide Gary Bauer whose career is based on ~ homophobia. N ~ Or; more often, public figures such as Congressman ~ Dannemeyer do the bidding for these reservoirs of (.) ~ hate as when he appeared on CBS' morning show this ~ week to push his new book (ghost-written, no doubt, in ~ one of those think tanks) on the "great homosexual 5 conspiracy:• Dannemeyer left hapless Kathleen ::. Sullivan reeling from his "facts" on this fag plot to "' undermine "traditional American values;' a plot waged by "2% of the male population;• so powerful it has "stood the medical profession on its head over AIDS:' When Sullivan squeezed in a question about ''facts;' Dannemeyer threw her off balance by citing an obscure Madison, Wisconsin, case where a lesbian prevented her two straight roommates from evicting her. Now there's a stunner. Just when you pin the conspiracy on that 2% male fags, you get blind-sided by a militant dyke. What is a congressman to do? And then Dannemeyer, Southern California's answer for an old-fashioned Southern demagogue, pretends offense because gays dare compare their situation to blacks and Jews. "The march on Selma was not a march on Sodomy (sic):' Boy, such profundity makes us proud to be Americans. But getting back to our conspiracy theory, watch/or certain catch phrases. Dannemeyer; when speaking of gay demands, refers to "special privileges" being sought by gays. Gary Bauer, when speaking this week on AIDS, referred to activists' demands for special privileges which would undermine our national health structure. And in Michael Fumento's new book, "The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS;' he repeatedly attacks this "era of special privileges" for gays. Fumento, a writer for the Moonie "Washington Times" and the now pseudo- I~ r-::1-SHEER INSANITY• ~ DAOUIRI FACTORY WESTHEIMER liberal "New Republic;' reveals the deeper import of this new line of attack. He not only attempts to characterize a gay plot against American values, he seeks to drive a wedge between the sick and the well, and then dives into the breach between the gay community and our natural allies among women, labor and race. We, being the national gay community, just lost another battle. New York's new black and progressive mayor, David Dinkins, just appointed as health commissioner Indiana's top doc, Woodrow August Myers, Jr.-and this with three gay activists on the screening committee. Myers' record includes backing mandatory name reporting and contact tracing of HIV positive people, quarantining of certain persons with AIDS, and calling for the closing of gay bars and gay bookstores since they offer a means for gays to meet. This right-wing conspiracy, fostered by a growing need to replace the great "Red Scare" of the past sixty years, aims to achieve the triumph of the "traditional American family" on the ashes of the homo plot. This goal is aided and abetted by the old divide-andconquer strategy: gay men from lesbians, the well from the sick, the activists from the great gay body politic. Sadly, the are experiencing great success. Our ability to pass for "straight" affords an easy out for some. The old "I don't want to get involved" syndrome or "I don't like pushy activists" cop out always offers another easy out. The real tragedy is that our dead and dying are even being used as a justification for our ultimate suppression. For; in fact, the conspirators now isolate AIDS with fags and druggers. And, logically, it must be divine will. So we have not only all the heterosexuals against us but God as well, in this scenario. So if you are unwilling to get involved, cower in that closet and just hope the AIDS virus doesn't flush you out. So much for a positive note. It is important, however, to point out that this right-wing conspiracy represents a very small, if militant, segment of Americans. Given a chance, the vast general public is basically fair-minded. We have but to reach them, and with a unified message. There is our hope. 1424-C Westheimer (at Windsor) 522-5156 Video Sales & Rentals • SWimwear • T -Shirts • Magazines • Cards • Books • Leather • Accessories • Necessities A Silver Streak of Entertainment (66········· ;:: 0 z --< JJ 0 (/) m < Variety Charity Show ~ Rick Herrera's & Brucella De'Vall's ~ (Miss TGRA 1990) Birthday Bash 11 pm Sat.
