Transcript broad-side n. 3b: a sheet of paper printed on one or both aides and folded. 4: something (as a ballad) printed on a broadside. 5a: the simultaneous dls- charge of all the guns on one side of a ship. Vol. 6. No. 4 HOUSTON AREA NOW Chapter April. 1975 E.R.A. HEARINGS TO BE HELD IN AUSTIN ON APRIL 14 2:30 P.M. Monday, April 14th. Write that down. It's the time scheduled for the hearings on HCR 57 by the Constitutional Revision Committee. HCR 57 is the Hilliard resolution which reads,in part: "WHEREAS, It is the sense of the 64th Legislature of the State of Texas that the proposed (ERA) amendment should not become a part of the Constitution of the United States and that the ratifying action taken by the 62d Legiskature was ill-advisedj now, therefore, be it RESOLVED. . . that the Legislature repeals. . .and rescinds the action taken therein," Hilliard's resolution was also signed by Reps. Mayes, Manklns, Dramberger, and Vlck (Houston). It is very important that we have people in the gallery during these hearings to show the legislators that the ERA has the support of the MAJORITY of Texans. We have arranged to charter a 43-passenger bus for the trip to Austin. Round-trip fare will be $7.50; call the Women's Center early to get a seat on the bus. If enough people express an Interest in going to Austin we will charter a second bus, but only If we get a sufficient number of names by April 2. Please make an effort to come with us to Austin. We will not be doing any lobbying to speak of, but it is crucial that we pack the gallery during the hearings. In case you've been wondering how this issue is faring, the chair of the Consitutional Revision Committee, Ray Hutchison, has received 73 letters FOR the ERA and 759 AGAINST the ERA. How does that make you feel? That's 73 letters from the whole state. Isn't that pitiful? It is vitally important that you write a letter of support far the ERA to Hutchison and to the following Harris County Representatives who are on his committee: Woody Denson, Senfronia Thompson, and Ron Waters. Rep. Chris Miller is also on the Committee and she could use pro-ERA letters too. Address them at Capitol Station, Austin, Texas, 78711. Jan Dilbeck
