Transcript ABUSED WOMEN SOUGHT FOR U.H. STUDY In the last four or five years the physical abuse of women by their mates has emerged as a major social problem. As the Women's Movement grows stronger, it is possible for the abuse to come out into the open. Women can now demand recognition of this problem and a search for solutions. Kathryn Duffle, a student at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston, is conducting a study focusing on violence in the home between men and women, why it can be devastating, and why the victims are often unable to find reasonable solutions tosolve the problem. Some victims do solve the problem, so the question being asked is how. What are the factors that influence a woman's decision to stay with or to leave an abusing man? The research uses an anonymous questionnaire which can be obtained by mail and returned to the researcher by mail. Any woman who lives with an abusing male, or has lived with one in the past, is urged to contact the researcher and take part in this survey. The purpose of the research study is to develop better ways to deal with the problem of the woman's rights - better ways to intervene, advocate, counsel and help to move women toward satisfactory solutions. If you will participate, please call or write Kathryn Duffle, 4603 Shetland, Houston 77027. Telephone 960-1966, 664-0077, or 777-5872.
