No. 9 HOUSTON CHAPTER--NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WCKm September 1974 STATE COORDINATOR'S REPORT CN AUCUST STATE BOARD MEETING Saturday, August 10th the State NOW Council met in Austin at the new Woman's Center at 2316 San Cabrlel. The following chapter delegates were presents Austin, Cen-Tex, Bell County, San Antonio, Houston, Bay Area, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Huntsville. This was the first meeting for Huntsville chapter to attend, also, Huntsville is the only Texas chapter which has made the recommended monetary contribution to the state NOW organization. The council approved the formation of a committee to study Texas NOW chapter names since under national by-law6 geography Is the basis fa: naming chapters. The Austin chapter volunteered to host the state NOW Conference which will probably be In the early spring of 1975. If your chapter would like to have a delegate help with conference planning, please contact Sue Rlcket, 512-836-9462, or Kartha Dickey, 214-363-2838. We plan to have chapter development as well as task force priority workshops. The entire Council was pleased to hear about the I50 state NOW members who participated in the textbook study. Please contact Mary Buxton at 713-333-3872 If you or someone from your chapter is interested in testifying Sept. 10,11, or 12th in Austin at the state textbook hearings. Fran king, 817-926-8511, state rape task farce coordinator, has information far local chapters who want to start a self-defense class. She will help you secure trained and qualified Instructors at low cost in order that your chapter can use this as a fund raiser. The next state council meeting will be November 2, 1974 at Huntsville at the Huntsville Public Library. Please, ask a delegate from your chapter to attend this Important meeting. Persons attending the Southern Regional NOW Conference In Memphis, Tenn. will caucus on Friday night at 10 p.m. before the conference begins on Saturday In the conference hotel. Please encourage local NOW members to attend Southern Regional Conference. Convenor kits have been requested and called to Abilene, Angleton, Texarkana, and Wichita Falls. I have been asked to visit the Huntsville chapter meeting on Sept. 5, 1974, the Bell County chapter meeting on Sept. 13th, and the Lubbock chapter August 30th.
