Transcript ON You Don't Have To Be Flatchested To Be A Flatfoot . . . will be the topic of our June program meeting, presented by Women's Advocates, Inc. As reported in previous issues, Houston Area N.O.W. is supporting Women's Advocates in their class action suit against the Houston Police Department, et al, alleging discrimination against women in employment as police officers. The salient fact in this matter is that once the number of women graduates of the Police Academy began to increase, artificial measures, such as physical agility tests and height requirements, were introduced to disqualify them. The suit seeks not only to recover back pay and other damages for women who have been denied employment, but also a court order requiring that qualified women be hired until they comprise 50$ of the city's police officers.
