Transcript HCWPC Harris County Women's Political Caucus 3602milam houston 77002 (713)524-5743 Newsletter April, 197li MEW OFFICERS NEW PRIORITIES Members of the HCWPC elected Barbara Lane-Farley their new chair at the third annual convention at the University of Houston on March 23. Other officers elected were Sharon Moline-Vincent, co-chair; Fat Carr, vice-chair internal; Kathy Whitmire, vice- chair external; Susan Heavey, secretary; and Sylvia Garcia, treasurer. Maria Kaplan, cilia Estrada, Ruth Milburn, and Bebe Bruce were elected to that all-important funding committee* In other important action, the convention voted to work toward two priorities in the coming year: 1. The election of feminist candidates to public office; and 2. Ensuring that Houston Mayor Fred Hofheinz will fulfill his pledge to the HCWPC to provide: a. day care centers for the care of children of working mothers in the city of Houston, especially in the downtown area, b. that qualified women are employed at all levels of government including the mayor's personal staff, department heads and on appointed boards, c. a rape investigation squad composed of qualified and sensitive female officers, and d. the Women's Advocate with real power to coordinate efforts to secure equal rights for women, especially within the government of the city of Houston. The convention also added a pledge to work toward other parts or our proposal for the office of the Women1s Advocate, including consumer action and liason with the city health department.
