A wife cannot charge her husband' s lover. ...if charged for wife beating, a husband can obtain legal aid, wives w o file charges have to find andpay their own legal representatives* ...to collect unemployment a woman has to work one full year, a man doesn't have to have had any work experience at all • Inequality is not limited to family matters. In the professions, in Civil Service and in industry women are constantly thwarted in their efforts for economic independence. Recent efforts in the form of strikes demanding equal pay and opportunity, prompted introduction of an Employment Equality Act in Parliment and if passed would likely prove to be the most important piece of legislation to affect women in Ireland. WOMEN IN AMERICA Eli Ginzberg, Columbia University economist believes that the growing number of women in the workforce will have a'greater effect on society thnn communism or nuclear energy. Large numbers of women working or looking for jobs will continue to produce high unemployment figures and will remain a major problem in this country. Women are re-evaluating their values, opting for education and economic independence,. "For the first- time in history, there are more women in college than men,",
