Transcript THE RAISING OF FUNDS Since the commercial season of Christmas Is almost upon us according to those harbingers of good cheer and profits, the stores (Small displays of wrapping paper with a suspicious white-bearded codger on them are beginning to appear. I would like to know why Mrs. Claus—she has no first name- is not a more prominent symbol of profit.), it is time to turn our thoughts to the raising of funds. We have a finance task force headed and staffed by Mareen Jasin who has asked for suggestions on fund raising. With only this slight provocation, I shall proceed to suggest the following: GARAGE SALES—easy to hold and usually profitable because of the old adage,"If it's priced right, you can sell anything." No offense intended. SUPPERS—usually spaghetti, garlic bread, and a good, "but cheap, wine—although chili suppers, Mexican combread, and beer have proven successful for some groups. Autry House on Main near Rice University has, in the past, rente*d out space for such functions. Tickets can be kept to 50# for children under 12, #1.50 for adults. Prices are flexible but should be kept low. Advantage here is the help can eat with the guests Instead of behind the stove. BAKE SALES—Ihave been warned that I will burn in hell or turn to ashes for this suggestion. They might be done in conjunction with a supper and therefore easier to take. Bake sales are probably as old as the world's oldest profession end perhaps, have ke^t us relegated to the kitchen, but the money We make from them can help to free us. CAR WASHES—Thi8 is merely thrown in to appease those I offended with the above suggestions. Soon, maybe, it will be turning cold and this will not *be feasible. I, personally, detest "Washing cars. Mine has to wait for a heavy rainstorm to get- washed (Also, there is something undignified about an adult crying and hurling curses, buckets, and herself at an inanimate object.). If anyone has any suggestions or if anyone has any talents— weaving, painting, making Jewelry, candles, leather goods, etc.—and wants to sell their artistic endeavors, please call Mareen (442-1844) or come to a meeting and help NOW
