Transcript GAY/LESBIAN DISCRIMINATION The Lesbian/Gay Issues Committee of the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is gathering information about discrimination faced by lesbian and gay people in Texas. This statewide project's purpose is to document the wide range of discrimination that is experienced daily from employment and housing issues to adoption and child custody disputes. This information will form a data bank that can be used in a variety of ways. For example, the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby is interested in this data for future legislative initiatives. The information will be shared with other organizations advocating for anti-discrimination ordinances in their own communities. NASW is particularly interested in discrimination in adoptions, foster care and child custody issues. We hope to use the information collected to advocate for statewide policies prohibiting discrimation against lesbian and gay people in this area. Participation in this project is highly confidential. Names, addresses, and telephone numbers are optional. If you are interested in obtaining a Data Form send a SASE to NASW, 810 W. 11th St. Austin, TX 78701 or call Fran Danis, NASW/Texas 512-474-1454. She is one of a small group of comedians challenging the political climate and she does it from a women's perspective. She's been called "Mark Russell on estrogen." She calls herself a fumerist- that's feminist and humorist combined. And, she's funny. Really. A former high school English teacher, Kate began doing comedy seven years ago on a dare and has not stopped since. Starting in small clubs and coffeehouses, she now appears in prestigious clubs and concert halls around the country. From New York's Bottom Line, to Chicago's Park West, to San Francisco's Great American Music Hall. Kate takes the status quo and shakes it up but good. Solo or sharing the stage with Dr. Ruth, Barney Frank, Pat Schroeder, Harvey Fierstein, Holly Near, Patty Duke or Ferron, for causes from the Human Rights Campaign Fund to the Women's Action Alliance to the Committee for Non-intervention in Central America, she remains "outrageously funny," "irreverent," and "delightful." Kate butchers sacred cows and papal bull, tears taboos to shreds, and specializes in "whyscracks," zingers that question more serious issues. Kate has three comedy albums to her credit on her own label, WhysCrack Records: "Making Light" - 1982, "Making Waves" - 1984, and "Kate Clinton: Live at the Great American Music Hall"-1986. We wondered why she didn't show up! Autry House is a bit confusing to find and we don't want you to get lost coming to the "Fortunes & Fantasies" Dance. Autry House is located on the wooded grounds of Palmer Episcopal Church @ 6265 S. Main at Outer Loop.
