Transcript Texas State NOW By-Laws I. ___£: The name of this organization shall be the Texas State National Organization for Women, to be known as the Texas State NOW. II. PURPOSE: The purpose of Texas State NOW shall be to further the purposes and policies of NOW in the state of Texas, and to: 1) Establish a vehicle for coordinated state action; 2) Foster understanding by exchange of information and ideas among NOW members in the state of Texas; 3) Assist the growth of membership and new chapters in the state; and to 4) Facilitate coordination between chapters in the state of Texas and the national NOW office and national NOW officers. HI. MEMBERSHIP: The membership of Texas State NOW shall include all national members of NOW residing in the state of Texas, which Includes: 1) Members of Texas NOW chapters, duly chartered by national NOW; 2) Members of convening chapters, which have applied for a provisional charter within the state; 3) Members of convening groups, which have an officially recognized convenor, but which have not yet applied for a provisional charter; 4) Members at-large residing in the state, but not affiliated with any Texas chapter, convening chapter, or convening group. IV. STBUCTUBS: The structure of Texas State NOW shall consist of: 1) The elected officers: a) The State Coordinator b) The State Treasurer c) The State Fund Raiser d) The State Legislative Coordinator e) The State Communications Coordinator f) The five State Membership Coordinators 2) The State Council, shich shall consist of: a) The ten elected state officers; b) One delegate elected from each chapter, convening chapter, and convening group; cj Elected delegates to represent unaffiliated members at-large from each area of the state (as designated in the first planning conference) in proportion to the percent of the NOW at-large population In each respective area based on current state membership statistics. Each area will be entitled to at least one delegate, regardless of the percentage of its NOW at-large population. V. STA^S CONVENTION: A State Convention of all Texas NOW members shall make policy to carry out the purpose of the Texas State NOW; 1) The State Convention shali meet no less than once every eighteen (18) months. The State NOW Council shall fix the exact data and place of the convention and give the chapters and members at-large (including convening chapters and groups) at least ninety (90) days notice thereof; 2) The State Convention shall elect state officers. A caucus of unaffiliated members at-large shall be called at the convention to elect at least one delegate from each area In proportion to each area's NOW at-large population; 3) Policy set by the State Convention shall pertain only to Texas NOW members and shall be consistent with policy of national NOW where such policy is stated; 4) Quorum rules will be established when a state membership list is available. Voting and discussion in plenary sessions shall be limited to duly registered NOW members.
