Transcript 1976 MEDIA AWARD WINNERS ELMA BARRERA, KTRK-TV SARA LOWREY, KPRC-TV JAN CARSON, KTRK-TV JOANN VALLIE RUSH KYOK-RADIO PHYLLIS DETER, KTRK-TV Breakthrough grew out of a commitment to expand and upgrade the image of women in the media. Women are newsmakers and we are here to cover the news, examine the issues and voice the opinions of women. A handful of dedicated people has carried us through our first year without either the budget or the staff which most publications take for granted. Our efforts have received favorable response from the community, but we need your help to expand and build on what we have begun. Contributors: Writers, photographers, illustrators and typesetters are needed. We are open to your ideas and value your experience. At Breakthrough, we learn from each other. Advertising: Energetic and persuasive individuals are needed to sell advertising space on a commission basis. Distribution: It has been hard to get the paper out to all the far reaches of Houston. If you would be willing to develop a regular Breakthrough distribution route in your area, let us know.
