Transcript NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN SEPTEMBER, 1989 VOL 1, NO. 2 GALVESTON TO HOSTTEXAS NOW STATE CONVENTION IN OCTOBER The 1989 Texas NOW State Convention will be held at the Holiday Inn On the Beach in Galveston Oct. 27-29, It is open to the public but only registered Texas NOW members will be allowed to vote, The agenda will include workshops, elections, entertainment and a rally in support of the pro-choice rally to be held in Washington, D.C. in November, Plans are still being finalized for the keynote speaker. "This is a great time to meet your sister? and brothers from all over the state/' says Phyllis Tucker, Texas NOW Activist of the Year and a conference workshop conductor. "The conference will be a great time for learning and sharing, As we join hands to fight the despicable decision of the Supreme Court, we will need the energy and strength of each other. The state conference is a wonderful time to share stories, share strategies, share the true meaning of sisterhood," Workshop topics will include: "Influencing Your Legislators - How to Build and Maintain a Good Working Relationship with Your Legislators" which will be conducted by Rep, Debra Danburg: "Beyond Egging Techniques for Fundraisine"; "Advocacy 101: Organizing Actions Nuts and Bolts"; "Using the Media"; "Non-violent Options - Peacekeeping"; "Civil Disobedience"; "A Cast of Thousands - Building Coalitions with Other Groups"; "Options to Legal Abortion - RU 286 and Menstrual Extraction"; "Affirmative Action - A to S"; "Self Defense"; "CR Training"; "Chapter Development"; and "Effective Political Organizing on a Grassroots Level." The rally will be held at noon Saturday, Oct, 28, at the Galveston Seawall. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Inn where an informal party will be given in the hospitality suite.
