Transcript Texas State National Organization for Women NEWSLETTER VOLUME II NUMBER 4 AUGUST 1977 WEEKEND IN SAN ANTONIO Texas NOW is planning a weekend of feminist action, hospitality and entertainment to be remembered! Our fourth State Convention will be held September 30 throuoh October 2, 1977 in San Antonio at the Cunter Hotel (East Houston and St. Mary's Streets - downtown.) Hostess chapter is San Antonio. Feminist activities from workshops to feminist films to a woman's dance are scheduled. Hiohliohted also at the convention will be the plenary sessions to elect Texas NOW officers and to do the work of the conventioni by-laws revisions and adoptina resolutions. The keynote speaker will be Elaine Noble, feminist/lesbian State Legislator from Boston, Mass. We are also priveleaed to have our National President, Eleanor Cutri Smeal, as an additional speaker. In addition, Mary Jo Risher and Ann Foreman from Dallas, Texas will address the convention. Workshops will feature sessions on i Sexism £ Language; Sexuality *• the Older Woman; Women's Land Collectives; Older Women and Economic Riahts; Effectina Lenislative Process; Asser- tiveness Training; Rape; Women and Mental Health; Feminism and Organized Labor; Vath Anxiety; Title IX; Lesbian Feminism; Newsletters and Publicity; and Women and the Law; and Handling Dual Career Marriaoes. Child care and alternate (free) housing will be available for the weekend. The registration fee is $15.00 to NOW members and $20.00 to non-members. The Hunter Hotel has given this convention its 1976 rates. These range from $17.00 to $36.00 per room per night. Don't miss this unique weekend event. Smeal and Massachusetts State Rep. Elaine Noble will address Texas NOW Convention on Saturday, October 1. Mary Jo wisher and Ann Foreman hav also been scheduled to address the conference. Ns. Smeal, recently elected to her post, has served as chair-one of NOW's National Board and chair of the National Py-]aws Convertion. "America's First Cay Legislator," Elaine Noble is the first admitted lesbian in this country to attain public office on the state level. Her topic will be "Women in Politics- '"The need to be Political". Ms. Risher and Ms. Foreman will also autograph copies of the book
