Transcript Tne Essay Contest for Women's Week was a real delight. We nad over 60 entries and eacn and every one of them was a great experience. The judging was very difficult but we finally decided on the winners. At the Awards Dinner the students read their essay's with a few exceptions due to time. I am including one of the essays which was not read so you may also enjoy the works of our young people. The winners were: 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place Special Honorable Aaron Williams Kristi Sostick Jeffrey Lewis Regina Maria Leslie Pendleton Scott Swann Paula Baker Brandon Bee Joan Lipsey The Surprising Influence by Joan Lipsey When I first decided to write this essay, I sat around for hours searching through my brain trying to come up with a woman who had a great influence on my life. Thoughts of g.reat women like Cleopatra, Sarah Bernhardt and Amelia Earhart seemed to run through my mind. Still, none of them seemed just right. I then proceeded to ask my mother if she had any suggestions to help me with my problem. To my amazement, the answer to my problem seemed to be right before my eyes. I looked at the woman standing before me, in her gray flannel suit with the dog dish in one hand and ner briefcase in the other. With this vision, I realized the one I always come to for help, my mother, has nad the greatest influence on my life. When we are small, our mothers appear to be "Superwoman". We think tney know so much and can do so many tilings. We all look to our mothers and say, "When 1 grow up, I want to be just like you. " When we mature to our adolescent years we think our mothers are senile and senseless, and its a wonder they ever surivved in life knowing as little as they do. But when we mature a little farther into adulthood we make an important realization. Our mothers are only human. No, my mother is not just a human, she is the greatest influence on my life. When I look into her caring eyes I see a successful business woman a devoted mother of two daughters and a loving wife. She is able to accomplish so many things. I year to have the stamina
