Transcript SEXUAL HARASSMENT Most women who have taken action and fought back against sexual harassment in the past have stood alone. These women should be applauded not only for taking action but for standing up for their rights. These women have not only endured the humiliation of being sexually harssed, they have also suffered degrading treatment by management and often their co-workers, and the ultimate injustice of retailiatory termination. Lo women snould have to suffer this alone. WE, as women sensative to this pain, have a moral obligation to assist these women. We must organize and take action to rid our work environment and our educational system of sexual harassment. Once this goal is reached we will be well on our way to achieving total equality in all aspects of our lifestyles. WHAT CHAPTERS CAN DO TO COMBAT SEXUAL HARASSMENT 1. Develop an educational plan for your own members and the general public on the issue of sexual harassment. A. Speakers - Develop speakers who are willing to go to other groups, the media, the press and discuss the issue of sexual harassment. Many people are really net aware of what sexual harassment constitutes. Many more because o<f our sexist society do not see it as a threat. Write letters to the editor of the papers discussing the issue. At least people will then begin to think. B. Offer to companies and business to come in and assist them in defining affirmative action. Help companies set goals and plans for their own firms to see that the federal guidelines are not violated. This was companies will not have to face court trails and unfavorable publicity. C. Hold seminars for tne public on the issue. One Saturday a month invite the general public to come to a five hour seminar on the issue (a good fund-raising idea also). 2. Develop a means of support A. Iniate rap sessions, something like CR groups to meet at least every two v/eeks. Have this open to the general public; women who have been through the horrors of sexual harassment, women who are going through the terrors of sexual harassment; friends, relatives, or other loved ones who care about the victims. You will need a place where the hurt, frustration and anger can be let out. A place where the different tactics that have been tried can be discussed. Above all, a place where women can
