Transcript From The President Once more I must begin with a salute and thanks to all of you for proving once more that BAY AREA NOW is one of the greatest chapters in the country. The awards presentation for our "Essay Contest" was one of the best programs we have done in a long time. Whoever said that feminists can't cook would have been proven a liar at that meeting. The covered dish dinner reminded some of us of life twenty years ago when covered dish dinners were the social occasion for church. The food was excellent, the company superb, the feelings wonderful. Tne thrill of looking out and seeing that many young people, their parents, friends and all our members was grand. You, the members of this chapter made all this possible. We have not put out that much good will in a long time. It also made you proud of tne young people in our area. The essay's were great. Much tribute must go to Sue Kevan, the teacher for most of our winners. As i spoke with each of the students and their parents I heard over and over again a respect and love for Ms. Kevan. To the students, their parents, teachers, and YOU, the members of BAY AREA NOW congratulations on a program well done. One of the students essays is printed elsewhere in the newsletter and the following is a letter the chapter received; "On behalf of my students and myself, I want to thank you and the members of Bay Area NOW for the lovely dinner and awards presentation on Thursday, April 5. I also want to thank you for the corsage. It was a most thoughtful gesture, and I appreciate it. I would like to commend NOW for its pledge to support public education and higher teacher salaries. We need that support. Again, thank you for the recognition and encouragement you have given my students. They have certainly benefitted from the writing experience you offered them and the special recognition you gave them. Sincerely, Sue Kevan" TUNE IN TO WOMEN ON KPFT - 90.1 FM Radio Women's music, sports, news & information, listener-participation Tuesdays - 8:00pra - A Woman's Place with Clara Kern 4th Tuesday of each Month is NOW night Fridays,8:00am to 10:30am, BREATHROUGH with Pokey Anderson & Cherry Wolf
