Transcript HARRIS COUNTY WOMEN'S POLITICAL CAUCUS 3602 Milam Houston. Texas 77006 (713) 524-5743 Newsletter June, 197 3 HCWPC TO MEET MONTHLY: JUNE 27 IS DATE TO REMEMBER The first regular monthly meeting of the Harris County Women's Political Caucus will be held Wednesday, June 27, at the Houston Teachers Association headquarters, 1415 Southmore, at 8 p.m. Southmore crosses Main several blocks from the Warwick Hotel. Meeting room facilities will be available from 7-8 for any committee meetings. POLICY COUNCIL TO MEET JUNE 20 HCWPC Policy Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Women's Center, 3602 Milam. Any member is welcome to attend and speak, though only delegates may vote. WATCH FOR INVITATIONS TO COCKTAIL PARTY A fund-raising cocktail party for HCWPC has been scheduled for Saturday, July 21, at Gertrude Barnstone's home, 1720 North Blvd. The party is now being planned by the Funding Committee; details will be announced later. Set the date aside now and come help fill our coffers 1 CONVENTION PHASE II PASSES FIVE RESOLUTIONS Copies of the five resolutions passed by HCWPC members at the second half of the convention, held May 20, are available at the Women's Center; the resolutions are summarized here. Public Welfare: Opposes welfare practices and financial cuts by federal and state administrations; support abolition of punitive and demeaning policies toward welfare recipients. Legislative Sessions: Endorses annual legislative sessions with reasonable compensation for legislators; calls for provisions to be included in new Texas constitution. Cable Television: Recommends the awarding of multiple franchises for cable television with franchise duration being less than FCC maximum of 15 years. Non-Discriminatory Provision: Calls for the inclusion of the non-discriminatory provision in the new Texas constitution. Candidates: Resolves that the HCWPC will campaign actively against Walter H. Mengden, Jr., in his re-election efforts. A CHANCE TO GET TO KNOW ONE mOTHER... The Women's Center is now open on Friday nights from 7 on for all women to visit and meet one another. No programs are offered, just a chance to meet some people you'll enjoy knowing. The Center is at 3602 Milam. In addition, donations of reading material on the feminist movement are requested to build a Women's Center library.
