Transcript US VEGAS NIGHT AUCTION - BAD WEATHER, GOOD SHOW! HCWPC Las Vegas Night Auction saw a gocd turnout in bad weather. People so obviously enjoyed themselves, that we plan to have another. As the green visor was donned, fantasier voze of being a hard-eyed Las Vegas dealer. Slipping into character, the dealers growled incredible characterizations of the action on the tible. As a non- gambler, I twice asked for interpretations into English. One table of non-caucus members came just to play blackjack ( alas, they wanted coffee!). Rows of men stood along the craps table with drinks at their sides Only the Great Zartania, bellydancer of the East, diverted them from the dice. The bars and our waitresses plied the g^rblers with drinks. The auction, if anything, was overabundant vith items to be bid uopn. Dinner with Kathy Whitmire was sold, as was Gary Trudeau's autograph. HCWPC made $500 on the affair, and we pi in to repeat it. We gained valuable experience for future fundraisers. Pluses included a tantalizing theme, an energetic fundraising chair - Nancy Aft - and lots of workers. Thank you to everyone who contributed. ACTION MEETING Jan. 18 Mayor Jim McConn remains unavailable for meetings with woman's groups. Chair Joyce Cragg and co-chair Benegene Kring have tried to set up andappointment through the mayor's aides, who either fail to return calls, or waffle when they do. Jo Stewart reporte that Linda Jones of NOW has been similarly unsuccessful. The League of Women Voters held a news conference on Jan. 18 to criticize the mayor for his unwillingness to even meet with women's groups.
