Transcript MEN CAN DO IT,TOO/ MEN NEED IT 560 VASECTOMIES The Houston Planned Parenthood Clinic has performed about 560 vasectomies since the clinic opened in June. The procedure takes a- bout 15 minutes and Is done with local anesthetic. The operation involves tying the tubes through which spermatozoa go Into the semen. The semen Is still expelled after the vasectomy but no spermatozoa are in it. Vasectomy does not affect the hormonal makeup or the sexual performance of a man. The operation costs $75 at Planned Parenthood though special arrangements may be made for men unable to pay. BACHELOR FATHER Toby Patterson, 34 years old and unmarried, has adopted a nine- year-old son in Portland, Oregon. He became interested in adopting a son after providing homes for foster children for years. His household now Includes two foster sons, 15 and 16 years old, as well as the newly adopted nine-year-old. Patterson, the first unmarried man to adopt a child through the Oregon Public Welfare Department, decided to adopt youngsters who were hard to place and has already applied for a second child. A study financed by the National Institute of Mental Health indi- " cates that bachelors, in general, are more unhappy and maladjusted than either single or married women. According to the study, men get more contentment from marriage than do women. The plaque will be presented to him by the Rev. Dr. Billy Graham when he next sees him. SCREWED AGAIN! An unmarried nurse who became a mother. Captain Susan Struck, has appealed to Supreme Court Justice William 0. Douglas to block her discharge from the Air Force. Captain Struck fears her legal fight against the Air Force will become moot otherwise. Air Force regulations prohibit unmarried women from giving birth.
