Transcript spring prospectus 3-3-3-3 The "Mad Dogs" have depth and experience in the secondary and at defensive end, unlike last spring when Yeoman had to replace seven defensive starters. But you just don't expect players to step in for the likes of tackle Leonard Mitchell and nose guard Hosea Taylor. Yeoman does feel right tackle Terry Monroe is as good at the point of attack as any player he has ever had at the position. The left side is open because of the permanent loss of Tommy Alexander due to a serious kidney injury. DeWayne Calloway, who saw some playing time will be the favorite but Alonzo Moore and Earl Jones will also get heavy work. Easing the interior line problems somewhat will be UCLA transfer nose guard Raymond Robinson (6-2, 250). Yeoman feels he could be one of the best athletes on the field come next season. Craig McGallion, Billy Termin and John Franklin will also contend for playing time. All four defensive ends are back and a quality group they are. Kelly McDonald and Greg Harmon will continue sharing the left side while Alvin Ruben and Leo Truss will split time on the other side. Houston will once again have quality linebacking and they should get even better with playing time. Senior Grady Turner is back for his third season as a starter, while Weedy Harris and Eugene Lockhart will be at war for the other position in the Houston 5-2 defense. Joe Pettiette, Ronald Hall, Paul Carlin and Kenneth Peters are others to watch at linebacker. The secondary is a pleasure puzzle that Yeoman is still playing with. Donnie Love returns at left cornerback while Reggie Vonner and James Durham are back on the right. Behind Love stands Butch LaCroix. Yeoman has Lwarence Woods at strong safety, and Calvin Eason at free safety. How to get all of his choices on the field at the same time is the puzzle and how to find the right combination will be another chore. With almost a completely rebuilt secondary Houston was seventh in the SWC against the pass, allowing 156 yards a game. There were fourth in interceptions and allowed only 10 TDs. (MORE/OVER)
