QUOTES IN RELAY ORDER:
Sam Graddy: "The first leg wasn't the best I've run. I don't try to worry about
performances, I just run.:
Terry Scott: "As the season progressed, I felt pretty confident about the team.
Being a freshman has nothing to do with it. I consider myself on the
same level as the rest of them. Being a freshman doesn't matter at
this point (in the NGAA meet)."
Reggie Towns: "Oar handoffs were better than most this year, but I still think
we could have done better, lie had a good liandoff to Willie (Gault).
Willie Gault: "As Reggie came in I could see the other guys going out. I was
three to four yards into the zone and they were five yards away.
I told the guys before the race, if we were only five or six yards
behind, we would be okay. I almost made a mistake when I was half
way through, I thought I was in front, but the people on the outside
were ahead of me at that time. I just had to pour on the power.
We'll take the team race one step at a tii^e. It's premature right
NOTES: TCU, qualifying leader with its 39.01 led through the first two legs
and late in the third carry the Georgia and Washington runners began to
pull even. It appeared to be a three to four team race at the final
touch-off* And that didn't include Tennessee. However, the Vols' outstanding anchor man Willie Gault pulled ahead with approximately 15 to
20 yards left, having made up at least five yards.
SCORING (After three events): SMJ 29; Washington 22; BYU 21; Tennessee 15;
