Transcript NOTES AND QUOTES The All America Film entitled "Par-Pines and The All America" is available by contacting Coach Dave Williams of The University of Houston. It is a 16 minute film in color and sound featuring the exciting moments of the previous All America tournaments. Harry Kalas of the Astro Radio Network is the narrator, the script was written by Ted Nance, it was edited by J. Clyde Smith and produced by KUHT Film Production Company at The University of Houston. 9K9f(9|C3|C9|(*fClpS|C 12 huge Billboards were used to advertise the tournament throughout the city previous to the tournament last year . . . this was a record. The 1968 Eastern Amateur Champion and the 1968 Western Amateur Champion could wind up playing each other in the All America this year. Rik Masengale of Texas U. won the Western Amateur and Bob Barbarossa of UH won the Eastern Amateur and was also Medalist (72 holes) in the Western Amateur. Rik finished 3rd in the All America last year and Bob finished 4th in the 1968 All America. Bob was also runner-up in Porter Cup and Southeastern Amateur Championships last year. Grier Jones of Oklahoma State won the 1968 NCAA Championship setting new records. He tied for 12th in the 1967 All America and tied for 16th in the 1968 All Am- Hal Underwood of UH became the only outright two time winner of the All America last year. He won in 1967 and 1968. Hal was rated the top Amateur in the country by a National Magazine. He was runner-up in the NCAA, Eastern and Medal Play of the Western Amateur Championships. The Red Baron also won the Texas Amateur Championship for the second time this past summer. Drue Johnnson of Arizona University who finished in a tie for 2nd in the 1967 NCAA Championship will be playing in the All America for the first time this year. Bob Barbarossa of UH and Rik Masengale of Texas U. will be playing in the Masters tournament this spring. They both finished in a tie for 5th place in the National Amateur last year. Ben Kern of New Mexico State was voted top Amateur of Canada last year. He finished in a tie for 16th place in the 1968 All America. 48
