TitleLetter to Mary Jones, 10 January 1859
CreatorField, Joseph E.
DescriptionLetter to Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas, from Joseph E. Field.
TranscriptLavaca Jan 10th/59 Mrs Mary Jones Dear Madam Yours of the 4 inst is received. The information contained in it gave me much surprise, as I have no knowledge of such a power of attorney, as it speaks of. I was told in Austin that Mr Tabar had, unsolicited, applied for, and located my land claims, as his own suggestion. I had my lands located before I left the country, and the fees had been paid, and I do not feel disposed to pay them a seco- -nd time. If however, he will give me what the scrip was worth last winter in Austin, he can have the whole survey. Or in other words, I will take seventeen ----------------------------------------- hundred, and fifty dollars, and make a good title, provided it is not already sold. I will make no other compromise with Mr Tabar. Will you have the goodness to be certain that there is no other paper in your possession. I am led to be thus particular, from the reported existence of a record in Matagorda which is equally mysterious. Yours truly, J E Field PS. May I expect a speedy answer.
