TranscriptSaturday Sour Lake July 16th [1881] My Dear Son As it has rain -ed everyday for the last three I am thinking seriously of leaving here just as soon as you can send me the necessary funds - As con- tinued rains produces sickness here (so I am informed ) I will need about $10.00 dollars more - Register, or send by express - I send this by Mrs. Goodnight. I would like so much to be here when Sallie comes that is if these continued rains do not stop her. As every one knows it is useless to stay in rainy weather ---------------------------------------- besides I am in doubt whether my neuralgia or rheu- matism which ever it is I have, can be cured by the use of Cold Sour baths, every time I go I into it thr soreness is increased beside All my other afflictions are greatly improved - Many are talking of leaving by Monday if it continues to rain there will be a great diminution - Your & Sams letters of the 14th recd will be glad to have Ell here a few days - Come to think of it - you may send me money when he comes over today Yours in love M Jones [on verso of 2nd leaf] Hope to get my specks today
