TitleLetter to Cromwell Anson Jones, 15 December 1880
CreatorJones, Mary Smith McCrory
DescriptionLetter from Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas.
TranscriptWednesday Evening Willis Dec, 15th 1880 My Dear Son At last I have set a day to return home. I propose going down tomorrow night, as Sallie has so far improved that I think now I can leave her with safety - If you or Sam can meet me, do so, or have some conveyance at the depot to take me home which will do as well as for one of you to go our there as the trains are so often behind time. This morning it passed here at 7 O'clock. How I wished I had been ready to avail myself of the opportunity of going down this mor -ning, so as to save being up in the night. But you may look for me unless it should be raining hard & cold in that event I would feel obliged to delay a day or two longer, as my old tormenter Rheumatism has returned with the return of cold weather I don't know how I can contain myself wntil the time comes to start home I feel so impatient to get off Yours in love Mary Jones ------------------------------------------------ [Written upside down across the top of page 2] a Negro woman got of[f] the train here this [morning] and told Gaston Mrs. Ashe was was [sic] aboard - If so she is now at home
