TitleLetter to Cromwell Anson Jones, [5 December 1880]
CreatorJones, Mary Smith McCrory
DescriptionLetter from Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas.
TranscriptWillis Sunday Evening My Dear Son I did not write you yesterday owing to Sallies being so very sick. Friday evening Doctors Jordah & Powel held a consultation over Sallies case & pronounced it Typhoid fever - I regret to say that there is no pro- spect of my getting away - As this fever may run twenty or thirty days, she has had it already seventeen days - I sometimes fear it will wear her out, in place of her wear- ing it out as the Docts say. I can see a percep table reduction in her strength in the last three days. And she looks very much reduced & hollow about her eyes Well to tell you I feel badly does not half express my true feelings - Away from my home, & not prepared for such a protract- ted stay &c &c &c - Gaston & Mrs Grove seems [sic] to think her symptoms better this evening - I hope they are Your Mother Mary Jones ----------------------------------------------------------- We have not set up at night any yet Gas ton sets the Alarm Clock in his room & comes in and gives her medicine & then too as I am in the room with her can get up at anytime she may need anything Yesterday she was blistered over her liver. But as yest. I cannot see that it has made any material difference I will try to write you a line again tomorrow M J
