| Transcript | Willis Dec 3rd [1880] My Dear Son I was gratified at the reception of yours yesterday - I can well imagine how awful the mud is - Well I regret to say that Sallie is still unable to be up - day before yesterday she sat up long enough to have her bed made up - Her fever is very slight at night scarcely perceptible indeed at any time only by her hands & feet burning & feeling dry. The salivation is nearly well, but her tongue is still covered with a yellowish white coating - The Docts are still giving her medicine to act on the liver - She seems to be suffering more now from cold & cough than from anything else - All the nourishment she had taken for two weeks would not make up one meal for a well person. In- deed she has no appetite for anything but a few spoonfuls of sweet milk each day for two days pas - Tea & crackers disagrees with her - so does chicken soup - Doct Jordan told ------------------------------------------------------------------- Gaston this morning that when she got through taking the six pills he sent her this morning we would see a decided change & improvement or he would be greatly disappointed - God grant he may be right in his prediction, for we all as well as her are worn out with hope deferred - I never have met with such an obstinate case - With much love and best wisher for all Ara included Tell her some kind of a story to keep her satisfied &c &c In Love Your Mother Mary Jones |
