Transcript[Written on front leaf of letter] Ell says to tell his Papa that he went to the show last night - What cold disagreeable weather we have had & are still having Willis Nov. 25th My Dear Son I wrote you the 23rd saying I hoped to be home very soon - All that day Sallie had been complaining of feeling badly - had sore throat, and complained of soreness in her back & shoulders, and in less than two hours after my letter was mai -led she had a chill, with vio -lent pain all in her left side back & under her shoulder blade & through into her left breast. Dr. [Powel] has been here twice a day up to 4 pm today, she is now free from fever or nearly so, and the violence of the pain & soreness are gradually pass- ing off - This attack makes her look badly and it will be sever- al days before she will regain her lost strength. ------------------------------------------ I hope to hear from you today if you have not all fallen to staves. Tell me how you are fareing [sic] in the eating line Mr. Mercer paid me this morning $22.75 my part of two more bales of cotton I had a talk with him about the little plan - he told me that he could in a little while sell all my corn at from.50 cts to 75 cts pr. bushel - I instructed him to sell it, along as best he could to subserve my interest which he agreed to do. My love to Sam & yourself also remember me to Ara tell her I think of her often In love Your Mother Mary Jones
