| Transcript | Willis Tuesday Nov 23rd 1880 My Dear Son I write to let you know what is keeping me from home so long - twice I set a day to go home, but Sallie would have an uncomfortable turn; and I could not get my consent to leave her. Every other day she feel[s] bad, some times from one cause and then an other. Today one of her breasts is sore and paining her & both her and the Baby has sore throat. I had fixed upon tomorrow morning to go home until this new complaint made its appearance. And again the weather is too cold for me to be out at night As she can get a trusty old negro woman now to come every day to see to her & baby I will be home the first pleasent day strange to say I keep perfectly well. We keep up a big fire night and day. And my bed is near the fire. Sallie has been setting up and hour every -------------------------------------------------- day since Friday last & I think every time she gets up she takes cold is the cause of her feeling so badly today. so I am keeping her closely in bed until this cold spell is over. Have you any wood on hand?? do write me by tomorrows mail all about my dear home & the dear ones there Give Ara Leeps kind regards &c &c. I am almost crazy to get back but for Sallies sake I keep it to myself as much as possible. She seems so helpless much more so than I had expected from the fact of her having a better time than heretofore. I think a few pleasent days would be so much in her favor How is Sam, why dont he write to me or Ell With much love from Your Mother Mary Jones |
