TitleLetter to Cromwell Anson Jones, 4 February 1879
CreatorJones, Mary Smith McCrory
DescriptionLetter from Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas.
TranscriptWillis Febry 4th 1879 Dear Son Yours of the 31st Ult. reached me yesterday Mr. Wiggins was here Sunday evening when we made an exchange of Deeds & all the papers relating there-to. I had also received from Zell his release properly authenticated signed by Zell & also Rogers Trustee. Old Head Quarters has passed out of our possession. I have read with interest the Brenham Sentinel & also the Telephone, particularly the communication upon the subject of the County Judges office. It is a good article full of good sense, and good reasoning I trust the [ ]ted wisdom of one State will let well enough alone just at this time. I received a letter form Sam of Jany 28th he seems anxious to get back to Texas, he says "The time moves mighty slow to me now as I near the end, although I have had a very pleasent, as well as profitable stay here, "But there is no place like home" I think Sam will enjoy getting back to Texas. I have planted Irish po- -tatoes, onions shalotts cabbage mustard lettuce and peas. A negro plowed up the ground & done the planting for me. Mr. Jaycope came up with two hands & repaired up the fince, and told me that soon he would send up & do some other work to on the plan which is needed. I have ------------------------------------------------------------- not paid him yet the months rent, an[d] waiting to give him time to qualify Last evening I bought six more hens. In all I now have eleven, all I want All are well I can think of nothing else that would be of interest In love Your Mother Mary Jones
